Although Halloween will look different this year, we hope your children will still be able to enjoy the day. We have received several inquiries on what is permitted this year, and although there is little guidance provided by our officials, below is information we have received from the various Civic Associations to help guide your plans. Cotswold: Residents within the Cotswold area can sign up for a Leave-A-Treat event and participate in a socially distanced costume gathering at O’Gorman Park from 4-7pm. Due to social distancing protocols, this event is only for Cotswold residents. Kempster Street will be closed between Hadden and Cotswold from 4-7pm. Please contact Andrea Weiss for more information.
Old Edgemont: All previous organized Halloween events have been canceled this year. Residents are encouraged to decorate their houses.
Longview/Greenridge/Fort Hill/Southern Greenville/Central Park Ave: No changes from previous years.
The Greenburgh Police Department has indicated that they will have additional patrols out on Halloween night. However, no street closures will be made other than the one noted above.
The Edgemont HS Red Cross Club is hosting a “Reverse Trick-or-Treat” for Edgemont kids! What is a “Reverse Trick-or-Treat?” It means the Club will bring the treats to YOU! A member of our club will deliver treats to your doorstep, for your child, during the day on Saturday, October 31st! Suggested donation to the Red Cross Cub: $10/per child (any amount is appreciated!). Donations will be accepted, in cash, upon delivery. Donations will go to Covid Response.To sign up, email your name, address and how many children you would like treats for to: edgemontredcross@gmail.com. Supplies are limited. RSVP by Thursday, October 29th.
Enter the Edgemont Halloween Costume Contest!
Since may children will not be able to see their friends dressed up in costume this year, we are happy to announce the first ever Edgemont Halloween Costume Contest. Please email us at edgemontcommunitycouncil@gmail.com with a picture of your child in costume by the end of the day on October 31st. Note the child’s name and grade in the subject line. Photos will be posted in a private album on the Edgemont Families Facebook page and a winner in each grade category (K-2, 3-6, 7-8, 9-12) will be picked on November 3rd. All winners will receive a free pizza from Mezzaluna, courtesy of the ECC, and have their photo posted on the ECC website. Please note that in the interest of privacy and safety, only members of the Edgemont Families Facebook group will have access to the album, however, if you still do not want your child’s photo posted, please indicate so in the email upon submission. We look forward to seeing all of your creative costumes!
Participation in Halloween events is a personal choice for parents and families. We anticipate there will still be children wanting to trick-or-treat, and encourage them to do so in a safe manner. We’ve heard a lot of creative solutions on how to achieve this. For example, some homes plan to have tables at the end of their driveways with treat bags. However you choose to celebrate Halloween this year, please be respectful of your neighbors. You can reference the Halloween guidance on the CDC website for more information.
